You haven't really been to the Philippines until you've squeezed into a tricycle or hung off the back of a jeepney. It's uncomfortable, loud, and incredibly fun.
The Jeepney
Originally made from leftover WWII US Jeeps, these colorful buses are the backbone of public transport. To pay, pass your coins down the line of passengers and shout "Bayad po!" (Here is my payment). To stop, tap a coin on the metal roof and say "Para!" (Stop).
The Tricycle
Like a Tuk-Tuk but lower to the ground. They rule the side streets. It's the most convenient way to make short hops between the beach and the town proper.
