Exploring the South Asian Isles in Summer 2024.

South Asian Summer

Exploring the Archipelago | Summer 2024

Imagine the sun dipping below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink as it bids farewell to another day in paradise. Leaving Belgium behind me, this is the scene that awaits in South Asia—a treasure trove of natural beauty and cultural richness. As summer 2024 approaches, it is time to dust off the luggage and set sights on an adventure that promises to be nothing short of extraordinary.

From cozy nights under a blanket of stars to the thrill of the open road beneath your feet, we are uncovering the magic of these islands, where every moment is a step into a world of wonder.

The Hammock Life

Close your eyes and picture this: you are nestled in a hammock, the gentle sway aligning with the calm rhythm of the sea's waves. This dreamy scenario isn't just a figment of imagination—it's our nightly reality. We plan to sleep along the beach, surrendering to the simplicity and tranquility of nature.

"The only sounds I will hear will be the soft whispers of the wind and the distant serenade of the stars, no longer the noise of busy European traffic."

Adrenaline & Flavors

For those who live for the rush, picture yourself on a motorcycle, the landscape unfolding before you as you weave through coastal roads, dense jungles, and quaint villages. We ride side by side to feel the exhilaration of the breeze and uncover the isles' hidden treasures.

But an adventure is never complete without diving into local gastronomy. We will explore vibrant street food cultures where night markets serve up dishes that are a testament to the region's heritage. From the smoky allure of satays to the rich embrace of curries, every meal is a journey through time—best enjoyed as a beach picnic surrounded by friends.

A Siargao Chronicle

UPDATE: During my initial days on the beautiful island of Siargao, I had a remarkable encounter. A local fisherman generously shared his food and drinks with me, joking, "You had my food!" This marked the beginning of an unforgettable mentorship.

He taught me the art of spearfishing during low tide—without a boat—connecting me deeply to the marine life. On one of my final days, I asked him to teach me how to tie a secure hammock knot. We spent the evening by a campfire, listening to Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" and grilling fresh fish.

Suddenly, he sprinted toward the ocean, screaming into the night. I feared he was in distress and followed him into the dark waters, only to find a group of local kids laughing. They were crabbing at night, and my friend was simply joining in the fun. It was a perfect blend of friendship, laughter, and the magic of Siargao.
